If you’ve decided to go ahead and book a hearing test then well done you! You know your hearing isn’t what it was and you’re doing something about it. This small step means your proactively taking charge of your hearing health and that’s fantastic.
Why do I need support?
You may wonder why we ask if you’ll have any support at your appointment… If you’re diagnosed with hearing loss, you may hear a lot of new terms that you won’t necessarily remember. We’re also going to ask you to make some decisions about your hearing health going forward. Our hearing consultations are always comfortable and in non-pressurising situations, it’s always best to have a loved one to support you.
Hearing loss impacts relationships!
A lot of people put off having a hearing test because they think that no-one else is impacted. However, this is not the case! Studies have shown that untreated hearing loss does negatively impact relationships. Your closest relationships can suffer because you simply can’t hear what the other person is saying very well. You could lose touch with friends due to communication issues. Some people even say that their hearing loss interferes with their ability to participate in everyday conversations. This can isolate you and make you feel very lonely.
What do you want from an aid?
As well as for moral support, it’s a good idea to have support at your consultation to help you decide on which hearing aids would be best for you. Your audiologist will also give you information on the maintenance and upkeep of your aids so it’s great to have another person know how to do this to! There are so many different hearing aids that you can choose from and they all have different bits of technology to offer you. It’s a good idea to talk to your Audiologist and your loved ones about what is most important to you. Do you want rechargeable aids? Maybe you want aids that you can control from your smartphone? Invisible aids sound good? There really is so much to consider and it can be overwhelming if you’re alone.
There’s so much to consider when choosing your hearing aids that we definitely recommend you have some support. Here at Veritas, we strive to ensure that our appointments make you feel as comfortable as possible. We even offer them in the comfort of your own home! If you’d like any more information on our hearing consultations, or the products we offer, please do get in touch.
